NBA Rookie Jerseys - Darko MilicicSupport your favorite NBA rookie with a new jerseyBuy your Darko Milicic jersey from the following merchants: MVP Sports:
He is playing on a solid team: Many times when an 18 year old phenom makes the jump from High School to the NBA they are stuck on a lousy team (LeBron James in Cleveland, Kwame Brown in Washington, Tyson Chandler and Eddy Curry in Chicago, etc.) that has very little chance of competing for a playoff spot. If they do get drafted by a good team they are usually buried on the bench for a couple years before they can start playing and making an impact (Jermaine O'Neal in Portland, Tracy McGrady in Toronto, Al Harrington and Jonathan Bender in Indiana, etc.). With Detroit Darko Milicic will be able to start right away on a team that will compete for the Eastern Conference title and have a very good shot of making the NBA finals next year. Darko won't be in a position where he has to carry his team like LeBron is facing in Cleveland. There are enough other veterans to pick up the slack there. He has been playing against men: Darko started playing professional basketball when he was 16 and has been competing against veterans and "men" while most other 18 year old kids just got done playing against other young teenagers. Darko has had to deal with some horrendous practice, playing and living conditions and had to compete in one of the strongest leagues in Europe. LeBron and most other 18 year olds have been playing against high school kids. These conditions and the competition level have made Darko ready for the NBA. A complete set of skills: Many people have been looking for a player to compare Darko to but they are having trouble finding someone who has all the skills that he has. The obvious comparison is Dirk Nowitski, another 7 foot European player but Darko is much stronger and has a much better post game than Dirk. Some people say Darko is the most complete center since Wilt Chamberlin but Darko has a much better outside game. We are talking about a 7 footer who can handle the ball so well he has played point guard recently, can bury NBA three pointers, and feels most at home banging down low. He gets to play with Ben Wallace: By being able to watch Ben Wallace day in and day out in games and practice Darko will be able to learn how important the "little things" like positioning on rebounds, weakside defensive help, agressiveness, and desire are in the NBA game. Wallace is the best rebounder in the game and one of the top defensive players alive today. Darko will be able to learn a lot from him and it will help his development exponentially. In Cleveland LeBron James has no one like this to learn from. I predict that Darko Milicic will win the Rookie of the Year, average 20 points, 10 rebounds, and 2 blocks per game. Along with that Detroit will win the Eastern Conference this year. Not bad for an 18 year old from war torn Serbia.
